The sorceress stood on the edge of the forest, her home, and looked at the growth of neglect and absence... her eyes followed the curl of the weeds as they sneered at her, all too willing to overtake the shady world she had abandoned. She shook her head sadly... it was just too much work. Each time she tried to reclaim the peace, serenity and beauty of the woods, the weariness would overwhelm her... the loneliness would drain her strength.

Disheartened, she turned away, wandering through the tall grass and bushes to the water's edge... she found a stone and sat, and gathered her courage, and looked into the water... Deep in the lake waters, reflected back at her, was a frightening face of confusion, bewilderment, sadness, lost dreams... The sorceress gasped, and leaned forward, stretching out her hand, unable to comprehend the image. What had happened to her? When had this horrible change occurred? Unable to bear the sight, she closed her eyes, and put her head in her hands, and cried... After awhile, she rose, dazed and lost, and began to wander along the lakebed, peering about her, searching for... something. A noise came to her from the other side... With the soft wind came magic and hope... the sorceress found herself gradually coming back to life, although she wandered and searched for she knew not what...inevitably, she was drawn to the source of the sound...

She stood in the path and watched the startled eyes of her friend the wizard; the sight ignited something within her, and the ice over her heart began to melt instantly, warmth flowing up out of her and over to her friend, so overjoyed was she to see the wizard again. They turned, as one, and began to follow the path, and the sorceress felt the strength of love and friendship surge through her, enabling her to move the small obstacles effortlessly now. Each helped the other, as they apporoached the entrance to the forest. The wizard looked into the sorceress's eyes then, and she saw in those eyes the magic she needed... each drew a little upon the other, and the way ahead began to fill with light and hope. The sorceress glanced down, into the large puddle beside the path... she smiled to see the image reflected there changing with every second, smiling back with strength, hope, happiness, companionship, love...

Her gaze locked onto the sneering weeds at the forest's edge, and they began to wither at her renewed magic. She watched with joy as the tiny effort she made encouraged her wizard friend to take that first step into the woods, back to their enchanted place, to reclaim it for their own, to clean it of the mud and debris, to invite the sun back ... to rediscover the glittering waterfall where the unicorns pranced and the waternymphs sparkled... for that was their destiny...
