Sea of Illusion

Shimmering sea of illusion
You calm me with your rhythmic surf
Sparkling surface fills my eyes
With the wonder of your vastness
Hinting at refreshing splashes
Cool enveloping waters on my skin

Alas, beneath your waves lurks death!
Sick ailing sea, what have we done
The whales and dolphins struggle to live
Failing, commit themselves to fate
Once you thrived with a million lives
Dipping, flitting, innocent lives
That now must adapt to shadowy doom

As we surf your breakers and
Cruise your currents, we leave you
The toxic debris of our selfish ways.
You, Ocean, the father of all life,
Passively absorb without complaint
Dying by inches, as we do not see
Our horizon growing closer each day.
