My Friend

When I'm with my friend
Its easy to smile and pretend

We are princesses in the garden.
She gives to me orange spiced tea with a grin
I give her a grave smile in return
When we were young, we played at life
Wrote great novels, traversed the world
And build our castles of sand.
When we got older, we wrote about love
Princes, rainbows, unicorns and dreams
She and I would dazzle the world
Capturing it all with magical words...
But dreams get stepped on, love sometimes wanes
And the unicorns never appear.
Without my friend, I'd have withered away,
The song of my soul muted and dim
Yet she gives me orange spiced tea with a grin
And coaxes a grave smile in return
When I'm with my friend
Its easy to smile and look
To the magic and dreams ahead.
